IES 2022 Preliminary Exam Pattern
IES Pre-exam paper 1 is simple but Paper 2 is the engineering discipline of the candidate’s choice between Civil / Mechanical / Electrical and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
- The Indian Engineering Service exam will be conducted on two objective types(MCQ).
- To qualify for this exam, candidates have to pass the overall cutoff as well as the cutoff of both papers separately.
- The Engineering Service Examination(ESE) Pre exam 2022 consists of 2 objective papers while ESE Main Exam consists of 2 conventional papers.

- For Each question, there will be four alternatives answers.
- This Exam carrying maximum marks is 500 (Paper 1 – 200 Marks & Paper II – 300 Marks).

Important Note: Only those candidate who has passed the prelims exam in the year by the commission will be eligible for admission to the main exam of that year.
Marking Scheme For IES Exam 2022
Negative Marking-
For each wrong answer given by the candidates, one-third (0.33) of marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
Blank question
If the candidate has not given/attempt any answer to that question, then there is no penalty for that question.
More Answer
If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct.
Unreadable Handwriting:
5 marks will be deducted for unreadable handwriting.
Accurate Answer:
Credit will be given for accurate, to-the-point answers using word economy.
Note: UPSC will prepare a list of candidates who qualify for the Engineering Services Examination based on the criteria of minimum qualifying marks in General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Paper and Engineering Discipline-Specific Paper of Pre IES Examination.
IES Mains Exam Pattern 2022
- The Engineering Service Mains exam will conduct two conventional type papers in Engineering Discipline-specific.
- In the IES examination, questions are designed to test the mental, conceptual and interpersonal skills of the candidate.
- This Exam Totally based on engineer discipline.

IES 2022 Interview Exam Pattern
IES Personal Interview is the final stage of the exam.
Once you clear the IES Mains 2022 exam, you will be able to attempt a personal Interview Exam.
200 marks provide for the interview test.
Also, This exam is tough.
